We love to ride bikes!
Slovenia is truly a paradise for cycling tourism and gravel bikes are the best tools to go travelling across a territory made of thousands of miles of well keeped, dreamlike gravel roads. Together with its paved country roads, away from traffic, cycling in Slovenia is an outstanding experience and every single moment spent in its countryside remind us how much (and why!) we love to ride bikes! A big variety of surfaces will make the happiness of any trained and passionate gravel cyclist. The Giulian Alps and the Caravanche mountain range offer the most challenging terrain where you will skip from mountain roads - built to connect farms and mountain huts - to forest roads, muletracks and some single track. Expect to meet big climbs on off-road stretches whith medium sized gravel. The arid area of the Karst is home of the limestone, where white and sharpy rocks could be not that friendly with your tires. The area around the capital Ljubljana and the Eastern part of Slovenia are famous for hardpack gravel roads, where to push hard, go fast and raise a cloud of dust behind you.

So which is the best gravel bike set-up to cycle in Slovenia?

700C gravel bikes
700C wheels is the standard today: you will appreciate them for speed and rollover efficency. Modern gravel bikes frame tyre' clearence can fit up to 700x50. We cycled the gravel roads of Slovenia with 700x42 and 700x45C tyres on a tubeless set-up. A 700C wheelset is absolutely at ease on the Slovenian backcountry: you will easily skip from hardpack to tarmac, from the beautiful Vrsic Pass climb to the Vipava Valley dusty gravel roads.

wired or wireless happiness
Many of our rental gravel bikes available in Slovenia are equipped with Sram AXS mullet transmissions, with a 40T one by in the front and an Eagle cassette with the 50T in the rear. I'm been riding bikes with wireless shifting for so many years, both on gravel and on mountain bikes and I'm totally fine with it. I'm also totally happy with mechanical transmissions: I am not that picky and I just enjoy anything on two wheels that makes me feel happy, like that Bzz-Bzzz of the electronic shifting does.

650b gravel bikes
For my personal kind of riding, is the win win solution. I love this wheelsize for comfort, grip and agility when tackling the steeper climbs or technical sectors of Slovenian' dirt. Wider tyres on a smaller wheel means that I can run a lower pressure, on a tubeless set-up, being more comfortable on long bikepacking tours or while scouting a new route in Slovenia for you (when I don't know what is coming next!). I like their safety on rougher trails too, the wheel' construction is more solid and I like to have the choice of 27,5" mtb thread patterns. Many of our rental gravel bikes, in size XS and S are equipped with 650b wheelset.
MTB: our roots
That's where we came from. We started touring on 26" mountain bikes, equipped with panniers and so much curiosity to explore the world. Thanks to modern geometries and all the great bikepacking gear available, we still love to ride hardtails to enjoy our routes, happy to look for as more single tracks as possible. A mountain bike can be a good option to go riding our Slavc epic tour: from the Dolomites to the Alps of Slovenia, on those single tracks on the ridge you'll be supersonic!
Plus bikes for Plus rides
Nevermind their massive tyre width, we love them as bikepacking bikes becouse, loaded or unloaded, they act always the same! We love to carry all the extra food and wine and go slow, enjoying the surroundings and, once at the end of the day, find a perfect spot where to sleep under the stars. We did cycled the Caravanche mountain range in the north of Slovenia with our 29+ bikes: great choice indeed!
the granny you need
We love funky bikes and we like to offer our unique and custom made builds to you. Go exploring the gravel road network of Slovenia and don't be afraid to tackle the spiciest climbs: with granny mtb gears, 29" wheels and rolling gravel tyres patterns nobody will stop you! Or maybe yes, just to say how cool your bike is!
E-MTB
